Founded in 2008, TIMELAB is the heir to a long watchmaking tradition. The Foundation took over the responsibilities of the Geneva Watchmaking School, which has been in charge of the Poinçon de Genève certification since 1886. It houses the Geneva Chronometric Observatory, with a history spanning over two centuries, succeeding the watch laboratory that served as the Official COSC Bureau in Geneva from 1973 to 2013.
Governed by the law I 1.25 of the Republic and Canton of Geneva, TIMELAB's mission is to operate the Geneva Chronometric Observatory, the Poinçon de Genève, as well as the watch and microtechnology laboratory.
TIMELAB is managed by a 7-member foundation council appointed by the State Council of Geneva.
Serving as a bridge between the academic and industrial worlds, TIMELAB contributes to the advancement of professional training, applied research, and development in watchmaking and microtechnology by collaborating with technical schools, watchmaking higher education institutions, and universities.
As an accredited body for product certification, the Foundation can issue certificates for finished products, i.e. movements or complete watches.
The Foundation's laboratory is accredited as a testing laboratory. The standard regulates the conduct of testing and guarantees the accuracy of the results obtained.
The management team comprises the Director, the Laboratory Manager, the Communication and Certification Manager and the Executive Assistant.
The Director is appointed by the Foundation Board in accordance with TIMELAB's statutes. Responsible for the executive body, he reports directly to the Board. As such, he handles all day-to-day business and operations of TIMELAB.
Working in the watchmaking and microtechnology laboratory, they are responsible for the precise measurement of time in watches and clocks, as well as for carrying out the many tests offered by the laboratory. In the certification department, technicians are in charge of approving the components of "Poinçon de Genève" timepieces, as well as engraving certified timepieces.
These experts are responsible for implementing and monitoring all the Foundation's quality processes. They establish procedures to ensure compliance with standards.
Staff members handle all administrative tasks at TIMELAB, including invoicing and monitoring day-to-day business.
