Poinçon de Genève

The "Poiçon de Genève" is a standard of excellence stemming from the tradition of Haute Horlogerie. It addresses the high-end Geneva watch brands. It is the guarantee of origin (mechanical movement, assembly and regulation in the Canton of Geneva), quality of workmanship, durability and exceptional savoir-faire.

For over a century, the "Poinçon de Genève" is a reference for quality that is synonymous with the excellence of a traditional savoir-faire.

History

The "Poinçon de Genève" emanates from a law dated 1886 created to protect the Geneva watch industry. Originally it was intended to solve the abusive use of the name of Geneva.

The Company of Watchmakers, founded in 1878, solicited the parliament of the Republic and State of Geneva to create an office for the voluntary control of Geneva’s watches.

This office, initially based at the Geneva School of Watchmaking, had the role of affixing the official seal on the watches from the manufacturers based in the Canton of Geneva, and who met the 3 admission conditions and the 12 criteria necessary for the acquisition of the seal.
